Two quotes from yesterday

Checking the mail yesterday afternoon: Sam, the 80-something neighbor across the street, waves at me. "How ya doin'?"
"Pretty good, Sam, how are you?"
"Oh, staggering around..."
Riding in the University District with my parents yesterday, with my mom at the wheel: Students are crossing the street in front of us. Mom turns to the back seat, where my dad is sitting. "How big is UW, hon? Are they bigger than [UH]?"
"Yeah, I think so."
She turns forward again. "So I can get a few of them..."
