Where have you been, anyway?
Sorry for my sporadic posting of late. Miz Becky and I have bought a new-to-us house (built in 1947, very nicely remodeled in 2002) and are in the process of painting and packing and generally getting ready to move in. Our actual move date is Tuesday; hopefully regular postings will resume soon after that as I bitch about the process of moving.
Why are we moving? It's a question we've been asked a lot, especially from thems of you who have seen the many house projects take shape. The simple answer is that given a choice between remodeling our current house, and ending up with a layout that almost works, or moving into a house that's already beautifully remodelled and has a great layout, we chose the latter.
All of this is pretty boring, really, so for your dose of weirdness I'll leave you with a
Movie Idea
Two monoglot Japanese zen monks are travelling around North Dakota with no guidebook but the Michelin Guide Rouge for BeNeLux, in French and Dutch. The locals try to help them by finding maps that look vaguely like the town they're in.
As the father-thing said when I described this to him, "the setup, getting them there, is almost the best part."

Congrats on the new place! We moved in December, and painted the inside of the house (cathedral ceilings and all) before we moved in (while planning our wedding!). Quite a job. But I'm glad we did it.

Re: the Japanese monks - I see that scene as the beginning, followed by a bunch of flashbacks explaining how they got there.
Re: the house - congrats! I hope all the work on it is progressing well and the move goes (or is going) as smoothly as those things can go. Good luck getting in there and recovering! I send both of you a virtual beer.

Make sure you triple check the hot water feed lines on the new place. Copper is the ONLY acceptable solution...
